December 2024 saw the opening of the Pueblo Nuevo Bridge to traffic, although construction is not officially complete. This modern bridge replaces the old hand-winched ferry, which could only carry up to five vehicles at a time, often resulting in long queues and delays.
The bridge is part of a larger initiative to upgrade and pave approximately 27 miles of roadway. This project aims to improve connectivity between Corozal Town and Sarteneja while driving economic growth in the region.
Along with the newly opened Laguna Seca Bridge, completed earlier in 2024, these upgrades have significantly reduced travel times to Corozal and Orange Walk, providing a major boost to communities like Copper Bank, Chunox, and Sarteneja.
